MY 2018 Travelogue – Come With G

I ended 2018 in the same country where I started, that is in Cuba. Cuba is 40 minutes by plane from my current base, the Cayman Islands.

This blog posting is more of a picture book as I have blogged in detail about some of the places I visited during 2018 already. This just sums up my travel year in a more visual manner.

On a side note, I am experimenting with PS Express to frame and edit my photos.

January – Cuba

January – Wynwood District, Miami

The Wynwood District is the streets art capital of Florida

January – Little Cayman

I attended a “Yoga and Healing Foods” Retreat.

February- St. Kitts and Nevis

This was my first visit to these beautiful Caribbean islands.

Nevis – the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton

March – Miami Open

I am a tennis fan and I try to attend a few Masters and or a Grand Slam event annually.

March – Anguilla

Anguilla is recovering nicely from the devastating hurricane, Maria which passed over the island in September 2017.

St. Maarten

St. Maarten’s recovery from hurricane María is slow.

April – Trinidad and Tobago

The Trinidad part of my trip was for business and I stayed at the Hyatt. Their infinity pool looks out onto the Gulf of Paria.

Tobago

May – New York City

By serendipity, whilst exploring the lower Manhattan, Wall Street, I saw the burial site of Alexander Hamilton located at the Trinity Church’s Cemetery. It is a very humble resting place for the man who influenced and promoted the US constitution.

June – Jamaica

I attended the biennial “Calabash Literary Festival“.

June – Norway

I began my Scandinavian trip in Norway. No trip to Norway is worth it without a visit to the fjords. I did the “Norway in a Nutshell” tour.

June – Stockholm, Sweden

The highlight of my trip to Sweden was the visit to the “Vasa Museum“.

June – Helsinki, Finland

Helsinki was just what I needed to ward off travel burnout.

June – Tallinn, Estonia

Estonia was a pleasant surprise. I took the ferry over from Helsinki to Tallinn.

June – St. Petersburg, Russia

St. Petersburg was by far the most fascinating trip for 2018. I took advantage of the Visa free entry for World Cup ticket holders. As much as I wanted to visit other cities in Russia during my one week stay, falling in love with St. Petersburg trashed that desire. One week was not even enough to properly explore St. Petersburg.

June – Turku, Finland

Just like Tallinn, this medieval town is very pretty. I travelled by train from Helsinki to Turku.

July – “Staycation“

For the month of July I lived like a tourist. After all I live on an island where others vacation.

August – West Palm Beach, Florida

I love how the streets in the downtown area are painted with flowers.

September – New York City

I attended the US Open Tennis finals at Flushing Meadows but also did the High Line and explored the West Side.

September – Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Puerto Plata is where I feel really connected. It’s my second home.

October – Staycation/Sunset

Each sunset is different on the Cayman Islands and it’s even better with Pinot Grigio.

November – West Palm Beach

It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas in early November in West Palm Best. I love taking the Brightline train from downtown Miami to WPB. Just one stop in Fort Lauderdale.

December – Tortola

The British Virgin Islands still recovering from Hurricane Maria is actively encouraging tourists to return.

December – St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

I took the ferry from Tortola to St. Thomas for a day trip.

December – Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

Old San Juan continues to be a favorite destination for cruise ship passengers with many sightseeing spots. Below is the Paseo de Los Sombrillos.

December – Cuba

I came full circle by ending the year in Havana, Cuba.

The highlight of my Cuban trip was attending the performance of ” Swan Lake” at El Gran Teatro.

2018 was a bumper travel year for me. I will be slowing down my travels for 2019 to focus on other things.
