“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance” Eckhart Tolle
This past weekend I attended a Yoga and Healing Food Retreat in Little Cayman.
Little Cayman more popular for diving rather than its pink sandy beaches, is a small island off Grand Cayman and is one of the chain of 3 islands which form the Cayman Islands.
This Crusoe Island is the perfect setting for a retreat of this nature. It is small, relatively undisturbed, rustic and uncrowded.
We took the 30 minute, 12 seater prop plane ride over from Grand Cayman. It was such a pleasant ride over cruising at 5,000 ft. on a cloud filled morning.
Our chef for the weekend, Britta Bush, of Saucha Conscious Living, (http://www.sauchaliving.com/)and I were the first to arrive on Saturday on the 7:00 am flight to prepare for the arrival of 8 other persons arriving two hours later. We stayed at Casa Cassiopeia.
Our meals in the most part consisted locally sourced, organically grown and plant based. After all it was a healing foods retreat as well.
Upon arrival we prepped welcome snacks consisting of slices of sourdough bread, pesto, avocado and homemade granola bars. Needless to say these snacks were thoroughly enjoyed.
At 11:00 a.m. we did an outdoor Hatha yoga practice.
Danielle Henry of Thrive Fit Cayman (http://thrivefitcayman.com/tag/corporate/) was our yoga instructor for the weekend.
After practice some of us took a walk on the beach, gathered shells etc. others relaxed with a book whilst others headed to the kitchen to observe or assist the chef with the lunch preparation.
We had many visits from these hermit crabs. They were drawn to the scents of the coconut oil, coffee and other natural essential oils.
Lunch consisted of a quinoa salad and a hearty green salad. We had an abundance and variety of fresh vegetables. Greens, greens and more greens.
We had a restorative yoga practice in the evening after dinner. It was so relaxing that we all took to bed quite early.
We started the following day, Sunday, with an awakening flow yoga practice doing many sun salutations.
We experimented with different types of green smoothies for breakfast. We were allowed to get creative. I made mine with turmeric, Siberian kale, blueberries, guava, passion fruit, banana and fresh coconut water.
Lunch was another culinary feast consisting of sesame quinoa, black beans, meatless chili, salsa and salad.
Later in the afternoon we made our own body scrubs with coffee grinds, demarara brown sugar and coconut oil. Oooh we scrubbed away and then washed off in the ocean and or the outdoor bathroom.
We had an outdoor yoga practice as the sun set.
The evening meal was a delicious coconut based pumpkin cállaloo soup. Dessert was raw chocolate vegan cake.
After dinner we remained at the communal table thanked the event organizers and shared our weekend experiences and epiphanies among other things. It was a good ending to the weekend.
Some of us have elected to stay on for another day.
